Candidates Interviewed Same Day Are Nearly Twice as Likely to Show Up
Home care agencies across North America are competing for caregivers in one of the fastest-moving hiring environments the industry has ever seen.
Candidates are applying to multiple agencies at once, and the agencies that respond and interview first are consistently winning the best caregivers.
Many agencies assume their biggest recruiting challenge is generating more applicants.
The data tells a different story.
The bigger issue is speed-to-interview.
And the cost of moving slowly is measurable.
At Hellohire, we analyzed more than 163,000 completed virtual caregiver interview bookings to answer one critical question:
How does hiring speed impact whether candidates actually show up?
The findings are consistent, repeatable, and clear.
| Candidates interviewed the same day are nearly twice as likely to show up as candidates interviewed a week later. |
The Interview Speed Curve

| Days to Interview | Q1 2026 Show Rate | Trailing 12 Months Show Rate |
| Same day | 60% | 59% |
| 1 day | 51% | 51% |
| 2 days | 49% | 47% |
| 3 days | 47% | 46% |
| 4 days | 43% | 43% |
| 5 days | 42% | 41% |
| 6 days | 38% | 37% |
| 7+ days | 30% | 30% |
Based on 163,000+ completed virtual caregiver interview bookings from April 1, 2025 through March 31, 2026.
Same-day interviews produce a 59%-60% show rate.
Wait a week, and it drops to just 30%.
That is a nearly 30-point decline in interview attendance driven by a single variable: time.
This Pattern Is Remarkably Stable
One of the most important findings in this benchmark is not the numbers themselves.
It is how consistent they are.
The Q1 2026 data and the trailing 12-month benchmark are nearly identical at every interval.
| Days to Interview | Q1 2026 | Trailing 12 Months |
| Same day | 60% | 59% |
| 3 days | 47% | 46% |
| 7+ days | 30% | 30% |
This consistency matters more than any single data point.
It means the Interview Speed Curve is not a seasonal trend or a one-quarter observation.
It is a repeatable pattern of caregiver hiring behavior.
The relationship between speed and interview attendance remains remarkably consistent across seasons, markets, and agency types.
The First 24 Hours Matter Most
The sharpest decline on the curve happens immediately.
Between same-day and one-day-later interviews, show rates drop by 8 percentage points – the single biggest overnight decline across the entire curve.
By day two, you have already lost 12 percentage points

| Days to Interview | Show Rate |
| Same day | 59% |
| 1 day | 51% |
| 2 days | 47% |
This is not a gradual fade.
Candidate engagement declines fastest in the hours immediately following application.
The moment someone applies, they are actively searching, emotionally engaged, and ready to talk.
Every hour of delay erodes that advantage.
| Speed in the first 24 hours is the single highest-leverage action an agency can take to improve interview attendance. |
Why Speed Determines Show Rates
When caregivers apply, motivation is at its peak.
But that motivation is not exclusive to your agency.
Most caregivers apply to multiple agencies simultaneously.
Every hour of delay introduces friction:
- Competing agencies respond first and book the candidate’s time
- Schedules shift and availability closes
- The initial urgency fades
- Attention moves elsewhere
- Candidates accept another opportunity and disengage entirely
The agency that schedules first often interviews first.
And the agency that interviews first frequently hires first.
In today’s home care hiring market, the first conversation often wins.
Where the 163,000+ Bookings Land
The booking distribution reveals an interesting insight.
The highest volume of interviews occurs at one day – not same day.

| Days to Interview | Bookings |
| Same day | 23,269 |
| 1 day | 35,957 |
| 2 days | 21,497 |
| 3 days | 18,026 |
| 4 days | 14,345 |
| 5 days | 11,195 |
| 6 days | 9,818 |
| 7+ days | 28,559 |
Most agencies are moving quickly.
But they are not moving quickly enough to capture the full same-day advantage.
The gap between same-day and one-day interviews is 8 percentage points.
What This Means in Practice
For an agency booking 100 interviews per month:
| Scenario | Show Rate | Completed Interviews |
| Same-day interviews | 59% | 59 |
| One-day interviews | 51% | 51 |
+8 completed interviews every month.
Simply by closing a one-day gap, without generating a single new applicant. Over the course of a year, that is 96 additional completed interviews from the same recruiting effort.
What This Means for Your Agency
The Interview Speed Curve points to one clear operational priority:
| Compress the time between application and completed interview. |
Agencies that do this consistently:
- Complete more interviews from the same applicant pool
- Reduce follow-up and rescheduling effort
- Hire caregivers faster
- Fill shifts sooner
- Secure candidates before competitors do
Before investing in more applicants, make sure you are moving fast enough on the applicants you already have.
For many agencies, the biggest opportunity is not generating more candidates.
It is interviewing existing candidates sooner.
Why We’re Publishing the Hiring Speed Benchmark
Each month, we publish The State of Home Care Hiring to help agencies understand current recruiting trends and benchmark their hiring performance.
Beginning this quarter, we are expanding that effort with a dedicated Hiring Speed Benchmark.
Each quarter, we will analyze how speed impacts hiring outcomes across the home care industry, including:
- Time to interview
- Interview show rates
- Candidate behavior patterns
- The Interview Speed Curve benchmark
- Emerging home care hiring trends
Our goal is simple: help home care agencies understand what drives better hiring outcomes and provide benchmarks they can use to evaluate their own recruiting process.

Methodology
This report analyzes anonymized data from 163,000+ completed virtual caregiver interview bookings processed through the Hellohire platform between April 1, 2025 and March 31, 2026.
Show rate is defined as the percentage of booked interviews where the candidate completed the interview.
Time buckets measure calendar days from application or pipeline entry to interview completion.
The trailing 12-month benchmark serves as the primary benchmark, while Q1 2026 data validates that the pattern remains current.
Published quarterly as part of The State of Home Care Hiring series.
